I went to Las Vegas for 5 days and had a very nice time. That will be all.
I Don’t Like Walking
I don’t like walking. There, I’ve said it, or written it at least. And while I fully respect the opinions of you (sick) people that do, the fact remains that walking is an outmoded form of transport and should be reserved for the short steps between the front door and the garage. (more…)
Four Days in the Amazon with a Man Who Loves Snakes
“I love snakes!” declared Victor with no hint of irony as we met in Iquitos on the first morning of our 4 day Amazon adventure. Victor was to be our guide and as it turned out he did indeed love snakes. He also had a healthy dose of reckless indifference to self preservation which as far as I’m concerned is an admirable quality in any jungle guide.
Colombia – In Search of (3rd) Gear
There is a scene in the movie, The Crying Game where after over an hour of watching an actress make her way through the movie you are confronted in a highly vivid way by the fact that she is in fact, a he. It only took a couple of hours in the cosmopolitan town of Medellin to realise that once again I’d been misled, although thankfully it didn’t require an exhibition of male genitalia to realise it.

Guat – EVER! – The Guatemala Files
Granted, my first interaction with a Guatemalan in Australia wasn’t 100% positive. While a likable enough fellow, I arrived at the driver’s console of our houseboat to find Hugo, our Guatemalan friend, dancing to Shakira (when she sang in Spanish) and paying far more attention to drinking beer and dancing to her intoxicating rhythm than navigating the shallow waters of Sanctuary Cove. When I suggested to Hugo that perhaps we were on the wrong side of a depth marker he responded confidently with – “Oh no Ben, I think that the map is wrong.” (more…)
